Tony & Gillean Daffern
Guidebook authors
Tony & Gillean live in Calgary, Alberta, and are seasoned climbers, hikers and ski mountaineers with close to 50 years of experience on various mountain ranges throughout the world. They have been writing and publishing bestselling trail guides to Kananaskis Country for over 30 years, ever since the dawn of K-Country in 1978.

Derek Galloway
Guidebook author
Derek was born and raised in Qualicum Beach, BC, and has made Canmore his (summer) home since 1999. In the winter, Derek either heads back to BC for work or south of the border in search of warm rock. Derek is one of the Bow Valley’s strongest sport climbers, having climbed over a dozen 5.14s.

Sarah Hueniken
ACMG Alpine Guide
Sarah has been living and guiding in Canmore for the past eight years. As one of 10 women in Canada to become a full Alpine Guide, she spends her summers guiding rock and alpine climbing and her winters guiding ice and mixed routes. Sean Isaac
ACMG Alpine Guide & Author
Sean pursues the adventure and exploration aspect of climbing with a passion for new routes and traveling the world. Sean has completed several first ascents abroad and was one of the early leaders in the Rockies mixed climbing scene. Sean lives in Canmore and guides year round. Jon Jones
Guidebook author
Jon started rock climbing on the gritstone edges of his native England at the age of 15. He moved to Calgary in 1967 and has been active in the local climbing scene ever since. A recently retired university geology instructor, he now spends his time rock climbing in the Rockies, the Okanagan and, when winter arrives, in Australia.

Joe Josephson
Guidebook author
Joe hails from Big Timber, Montana, but is probably best known for his time in the Canadian Rockies where he established many new routes and authored the 3rd and 4th editions of the local ice climbing guidebook Waterfall Ice, published by Rocky Mountain Books.

John Martin
Guidebook author
John grew up in Calgary and has been climbing in the Rockies since 1963. He has been active in guidebook writing since 1985.

Jen Olson
IFMGA Mountain Guide
Jen is an IFMGA Mountain Guide and a proud resident of Canmore. She can be found rock climbing on sunny limestone or skipping along summit ridges of the majestic Canadian Rockies. To learn more about Jen, check out her blog, Climber Passionate.

Parks Canada
Mountain Safety Specialists
Parks Mountain Safety is a branch of Parks Canada dedicated solely to the purpose of public safety. Mountain Safety Specialists are Parks Canada staff members who are entrusted to provide world-class Search and Rescue and Avalanche Safety services to visitors who want to experience the National Parks.

Chic Scott
Climber, Skier, Writer
Chic was born in Calgary in 1945 and is a fourth generation Albertan and a third generation Calgarian. In 1962 he took up mountain climbing and skiing and these two passions have dominated his life ever since. He was part of the first wave of homegrown Canadian climbers who were to earn their place in this British and European dominated sport.
Scott Semple
Creator of InCanmore.com
Scott has lived in Canmore since 1999, initially in a Honda Civic so he could climb full-time and not have to pay rent. These days he lives indoors with his wife and two kids. Scott created InCanmore.com, because when his parents visit, his Dad often asks, “What should we do this weekend?”

Raphael Slawinski
Guidebook author
Raphael is one of the Rockies most accomplished all-round climbers, having climbed M12, 5.13 and completed many alpine first ascents at home and abroad. He is a professor of physics at Mount Royal University in Calgary, married with cats and is writing the update to Selected Alpine Climbs in the Canadian Rockies.

Gery Unterasinger
IFMGA Mountain Guide
Gery grew up in Austria and has been a talented climber since his teenage years. He has lived in Canmore off and on for the past 15 years and is a guide for Canadian Mountain Holidays. He is a talented photographer and one of the Bow Valley’s strongest all-round climbers, comfortable on hard ice, hard mixed and 5.13 rock.

Jorg Wilz
IFMGA Mountain Guide
Jorg has been mountaineering and skiing since his early childhood in the Alps. He has climbed and guided many classics in the Alps, extensive ski traverses as well as fast big wall ascents in Yosemite and in the Himalayas. You can learn more about Jorg at www.ontopmountaineering.com.
